Synopsis
We are studying multiple aspects of the role of immunopathology in the tumor microenvironment and particularly interested in the role of immune cells in tumorigenesis, the bidirectional cross talk between immune and epithelial cells and how this cross talk affects tissue homeostasis and carcinogenesis. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the deadliest tumors, is a prototype of inflammation induced cancer. Employing mouse models of human HCC and genetic manipulation strategies, coupled to cell isolation and analysis techniques, we are delineating the molecular cues and pathogenetic processes that precede and promote HCC.
